چکیده

Radiosurgery is a non-invasive procedure that uses focused beams of radiation to destroy brain tumors. Treatment planning for ra-diosurgery involves determining a series of beam conngurations that will destroy the tumor without damaging healthy tissue in the brain, particularly critical structures. A new image-guided robotic radiosurgical system has been developed at Stanford University in a joint project with Accu-ray, Inc. It has been in clinical use at Stanford since July, 1994, and thus far three patients have been treated with it. This system provides much more exibility for treatment planning than do traditional radiosurgical systems. In order to take full advantage of this added exibility, we have developed automatic methods for treatment planning. Our planner enables a surgeon to specify constraints interactively on the distribution of dose delivered and then to nd a set of beam conngurations that will satisfy these constraints. We provide a detailed description of our treatment planning algorithms and summarize our rst experiences using the system in a clinical setting.

In radiosurgery a moving beam of radiation is used as an ablative surgical instrument to destroy brain tumors. Classical radiosurgical systems rely on rigid skeletal xation of the anatomic region to be treated. This xation procedure is very painful for the patient and limits radiosurgical procedures to brain lesions. Furthermore, due to the necessity of rigid xation, radiosurgical treatment wit...

| Radiosurgery is a treatment for brain tumors and other lesions which employs a moving beam of photon radiation. In robotic radiosurgery, the radiation source is moved by a six degree-of-freedom robotic arm. A treatment planning system for robotic radiosurgery was developed. This planning system combines collision avoidance techniques and geometric algorithms for nding appropriate robot paths ...

Cyberknife Radiosurgery – A New Treatment Method for Image-guided, Robotic, High-precision Radiosurgery

Cyberknife Radiosurgery – Overview Cyberknife technology is based on radiosurgical principles that have been in clinical practice for 30 years. Radiosurgery is the precise application of a high (tumour-destructing) dose of radiation in a precisely defined target volume, while protecting the surrounding healthy tissue. During radiosurgery, many radiation beams from different directions intersect...
